Message from the Principal

August 5, 2022

Hello South Families-

I hope that your summer has been a good one and you are finding ways to avoid the heat.

The 22-23 school year will be starting in a few weeks, and I wanted to send along a few pieces of information that could be helpful as you make plans for the start of the year.

  • Welcome Back Night
We will welcome our students back to South on Wednesday, August 24th, in the evening.  Be on the lookout for additional information in the near future.
  • When is the first day of school at South?
6th Grade First Day: August 29th - School starts at 8:30am.
All Students: August 30th - All students will attend school beginning Tuesday, August 30th at 8:30am.
  • Complete online registration
All new and returning students must complete registration for the 2022-23 school year. Emails with your student’s unique snapcode were sent again this week. Be sure to check spam/junk folders.
  • Student Schedules
Schedules for students will be available on PowerSchool beginning August 24th.  If you do not have an account for PowerSchool, please take time to create one this summer.  PowerSchool will be an important tool for helping your student be successful this year.  PowerSchool Account Creation  You will need you the Access ID and Access Password for your student if you are creating a new account.  You can contact our front office at 541-474-5750, beginning, Tuesday, August 9th, to get that information.
  • Become a school volunteer
We are thrilled to have volunteers back in our buildings! Please note, the volunteer application must be filled out every year. The District also requires that all volunteers undergo a criminal background check. Visit our volunteer webpage for additional information.
  • Athletics
Students can register for fall sports on our athletics website.  Please note: the only sport open to 6th graders in the fall is cross country.

We will be sending additional information each week through August to update you on start of the year activities.  I know there are questions about the use of hall lockers, if students will be dressing down for PE, as well as a variety of other subjects.  We will be sending information about all those topics over the next week.

Please enjoy the rest of the summer, and we will see you soon!
